This intensive session between the fall and spring semesters offers online courses from SDSU’s degree programs. Anyone can enroll in these online winter break classes — current SDSU students, students from other colleges and universities, high school graduates, and working professionals.

Students are limited to 3 units during Winter Session. Courses are fully online.

Winter Session courses are accelerated and rigorous in terms of format and timeline; please plan accordingly to dedicate sufficient time in your schedule.

How to Register

SDSU Global Campus has a new registration process for Winter Session courses. Follow the steps below to sign up for Winter Session:

  1. Browse the available courses on our website. Click on the course title to view course descriptions.
  2. Once you’ve chosen your course(s), click the Begin Your Registration button.
  3. Fill out and submit the form to indicate you’d like to register for Winter Session courses.
  4. You’ll receive a confirmation email from SDSU Global Campus within 2-3 business days with the next steps to complete your registration.
  5. Complete your full payment in my.SDSU after your registration has been submitted. Click here for more information on our payment and drop policy.

Please note that this process applies to all students, including current SDSU student.

Course Prerequisites

Course prerequisites are listed in the SDSU General Catalog. It’s your responsibility to ensure that you meet all course prerequisites prior to registering for a class. Failure to meet course prerequisites will not be accepted as a justification for a refund of fees.

Winter Session Credit

Credit earned during Winter Session is considered resident credit and included in your SDSU grade point average. All grades are also included in your SDSU transcripts.

Fees and Payment

Winter Session fees are currently $300 per unit. Please note that this price may be subject to change.

Financial Aid Information

No separate financial aid is available for Winter Session. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for any FA related questions.

Open Door

Enrollment is open to current SDSU students, students from other colleges and universities, high school graduates, and working professionals. International students already admitted to SDSU may enroll, but students from other institutions have to maintain their visa status at their home institution and have to meet the SDSU TOEFL requirement (currently, a passing score is 80 iBT/550 paper or higher).

Disqualified Students

Undergraduate students who have been disqualified from SDSU will not be allowed to attend Winter Session or classes through the SDSU Global Campus Special Sessions until one year from the date of their disqualification. Graduate students will not be allowed for one semester following disqualification.

Unit Limitation

You may enroll in a maximum of 3 units during Winter Session.

General Education Requirements

Some courses fulfill General Education (GE) requirements as shown in the SDSU General Catalog.

WI 0019 Business Opportunities in the Wine Industry
This course presents an overview of the many possibilities in this exciting industry through exploring current wine market trends and an analysis of issues involved in wine business start-ups and potential strategies for success. Production, importing, distribution, and retail segments will be examined through a specific case study approach. Pricing, positioning, marketing, and operations components will be analyzed as they relate to the wine business model. You will learn how to develop a business plan specific to the wine industry. Guest speakers will share their real life experiences and perspectives.

CB 0004 Brewery Start-Up I
Ready to start or work with a new brewery? Brewery Start-Up 1 will give you all the information you need to open, manage or work in a start-up brewery. This six-week course goes through every aspect of a start-up: concept, basic craft definitions, capital raising, trademark and legal issues, location identification and build-out, equipment and ingredient needs, licensing processes, federal and state alcohol laws, and selling and marketing your product. Industry leaders with hands-on knowledge bring real-world experience and guest speakers to touch on every topic. A trip to a local brewery is included.

This course takes students on a journey around the world of wine. Topics covered include: history, grape varietals, viticulture, language and labeling, tastings; as well as an introduction to food and wine pairing, wine service and temperatures, and the wine-making process. This is an overview of the role and influence of wine in history and today's culture, a foundation for further wine education.

The goal of Leading Edge Certification (LEC) is to help each participant become a more effective online and blended learning instructor, and to provide a learning context that interests, excites, and challenges students to explore effective teaching practices. This course includes both theoretical and experiential components.

CB 0003 Marketing Craft Beer
Marketing is crucial to the health and survival of any organization. This six-week course involves a comprehensive study of the basic concepts, techniques, and tools for developing a marketing strategy for the business of craft beer. Topics include research, targeting, positioning, branding, traditional media versus social media, public relations, websites, blogging, and email campaigns. We'll also explore building your customer base on-premise, off-premise, and direct-to-consumer (DTC) through both traditional and unique forms of marketing. Students will create their own craft beer marketing plan for their chosen beer or brewery.
