SDSU...In Partnership with Educators for Over a Century
San Diego State University was founded as a Teacher's College more than 100 years ago. Today, that tradition continues with the College of Extended Studies as a proud partner with the SDSU College of Education, international schools, Department of Defense Educational Activity (DODEA) schools, local school districts, and other organizations that are committed to excellence in education in providing graduate-level professional development courses for educators.

Questions Students Frequently Ask

What is graduate level professional development credit?
At SDSU, graduate level professional development courses for teachers are given the course number ED X997. Courses approved for ED X997 credit are fully reviewed and approved by the faculty of the College of Education. These graduate level courses are designed to meet the needs of educators who wish to develop or continue the study of a current topic. Courses numbered at the 900 level are not designed to be applicable to graduate programs at SDSU but like all transferable credit may, with approval from the receiving institution, be applicable to degrees at that institution.

Will my school district accept this credit for professional development?
Most school districts, including Department of Defense Dependent school districts, do accept this credit for professional development and salary advancement purposes. Check with your local district to confirm whether graduate level professional development courses will be counted toward professional development requirements and salary advancement schedules.

How do I register?
There are four easy ways to register for credit with SDSU
1. Register online through our secure website for Education Programs
2. Call the College of Extended Studies Registration Office at +1 (619) 594-5152
3. Mail your course registration form to the address provided
4. In person at the SDSU Gateway Center Building, Hardy Avenue entrance

If your course is being offered by an organization outside of SDSU, contact the agency offering the course (i.e. your school district or outside learning institute). Once you have enrolled for the training, you should then register with SDSU if you would like to receive graduate level professional development credit for the course. Your instructor will provide you with SDSU registration materials.

A unique schedule number is assigned to each course, along with a registration deadline. After the registration deadline, students may request to register late with instructor approval and a late payment fee. See Registration Deadlines for more information.

Who do I contact if I have registration questions?
Please contact the College of Extended Studies Registration Office at ces.registrar@sdsu.edu or (619) 594-5152.

What is a RedID and how do I get one?
San Diego State University uses a student identification number called SDSU RedID as your primary source of identification for all transactions at SDSU. You will be issued a RedID when you register for a course. For more information about RedID numbers, see Registration Information: SDSU RedID.

How will I be graded?
Your instructor will provide you with information regarding the assignments that must be completed for the course, and the grading rubric. Some courses will require you to write a reflection paper and submit that to SDSU for grading. This requirement will be listed in the course description. View the reflection paper evaluation guidelines/rubric. To view your final grade, you will need to log in to SDSU WebPortal. Grades and transcripts are not automatically sent to students upon completion of a course.

How do I get my official grade or transcript?
You must request a transcript, as they are not automatically sent to students upon completion of a course. To order an official or unofficial transcript, you will need to log in to SDSU WebPortal. If you have never logged in, you will need to create an account. Please note that SDSUWebPortal is a different system than the one you used to register online for your course, so you will need to create a different user name and password.
