Tom Nickel has been a part of the San Diego beer scene since 1995 when he started working at Home Brew Mart in Linda Vista. He is the owner of O'Brien's Pub, Nickel Beer Company, and West Coast Smoke and Tap House; and the co-founder of the San Diego International Beer Festival and Competition, and the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. Nickel previously worked at Ballast Point, Pizza Port, and Oggi's — where, in 2004 he won the Small Brewing Company of the Year award at the World Beer Cup with fellow brewer Jeff Bagby.
