Esports, or competitive multiplayer gaming, is thriving.

Each year, there are thousands of amatuer and professional Esports competitions, with millions of dollars in prize pools. Many of the world’s top-name brands — including BMW, Intel, and the Coca Cola Company — have sponsored numerous Esports tournaments. With companies spending millions of dollars for sponsorships, franchise development, and tournament broadcasting rights, Goldman Sachs predicts that by 2022, the market for Esports will top $2.95 billion. What You Will Learn

SDSU’s Esports program will help you learn about the various areas of the Esports business so you can find your fit in this growing industry. After taking three foundational core courses, you’ll get to customize your curriculum by choosing one of two unique certificate tracks:

Professional Certificate in Esports Management

If you’re interested in growing the game, SDSU’s Esports management program will help you develop a deeper understanding of the business of Esports. You’ll learn how to work with on-the-field talent through player development and team management. You’ll also learn how to plan exciting events that will engage (and grow) your audience through broadcasts, streaming, and emerging media.

Professional Certificate in Esports Design

If you’re interested in building games, our Esports design program will help you learn how to develop highly-immersive gaming experiences for a variety of audiences. These online courses will show you how to create advanced content for PCs, next-gen consoles, and mobile devices, with specialized modules on video production, sound design, user experience, and more.

From 2018 to 2019, Esports employment opportunities grew an astounding 185%. Dane Henderson is the Program Advisor for the SDSU Global Campus Esports Certificate program. He has over 28 years in the gaming industry including working at Westwood Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment, and Midway Games.

James “Bonzai” Caruso is a six-time Grammy Award-winning recording and mixing engineer, music producer, music arranger, and songwriter. He has more than three decades of experience working with high-profile recording artists.

Bonzai started his career as a teenager, attending the world-renowned Institute of Audio Research in Greenwich Village. He then began honing his skills in New York City’s finest studios. By his early twenties, Bonzai was already making a name for himself. Bonzai was credited with creating new sounds with multiple renowned artists, including Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Africa Bambaatta, and Ice-T, to name just a few.
